SEMO GIS was formed in 2005 as a joint project of Show-Me Net, Inc. and
the SEMO Regional Planning & Economic Development Commission
in cooperation with Cities and Counties in the SEMO area with the purpose
of providing useful maps to promote emergency preparedness,
community development, healthcare, commerce, social services, public works, and administration.
Show-Me Net closed its office on December 31, 2009,
leaving SEMO GIS without office space or employees. On Jan. 12, Show-Me Net's Board of Directors transfered ownership of all of SEMOGIS's equipment to the SEMO Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission. The Commission's knowledgeable and experienced staff and considerable reputation and assets will insure SEMOGIS will be here for the foreseeable future. A special word of thanks is also due to Big River Telephone company, who donated rack space and Internet access for the SEMOGIS server. We could not function without their practically unlimited bandwidth.
